It is a sight that people are used to watching on television screens on the Crime Scene Investigation series.
However, for Girls Aloud band member Sarah Harding, it was a case of life imitating art as she called in the professionals to attend her very own crime scene.
The 30-year-old was the victim of a break in as her silver Range Rover was left with a shattered window after crooks had smashed it, in Primrose Hill, London.
Crime Scene Investigation: An officer dusts Sarah Harding's Range Rover down for finger prints after it was broken into, in Primrose Hill, London
A scene of crime officer was sent out to take finger prints as they damage was surveyed and the investigation to catch the thieves got underway.
The officer may have been from a special department that deals with this sort of crime but she didn't have any of the modern gadgets that the television series feature.
There was no high-tech device to sweep across the car or set up for extra clues.
More powder: The scene of crime officer worked alone as she got down to some good old fashioned police work
Trusty assistant: Sarah Harding's helper was on hand to offer his services to the police worker at the crime scene
Instead, the female officer simply dusted down the door with aluminium powder and highlighted a number of fingerprints.
The hands on job took the woman inside the front seat of the car as Sarah's assistant stood by holding some paper work.
It is thought that the thieves got away with the singer's satellite navigation system as the mount for the device was found on the floor of the car.
Front seat action: The SOCO got into the car to survey the damage and look for any potential clues to the burglary
The long arm of the law: The criminals are said to have stolen Sarah's satellite navigation system
It is also not known if Sarah was at home at the time her beloved vehicle was broken into but the star will likely be distraught.
Harding was often seen running errands around town in her flashy motor as well as taking it for repairs and servicing.
Poor thing: The Girls Aloud star, pictured earlier this year with her car, will be gutted it has been smashed in by criminals
