George Best”s ex-wife breaks leg after falling from monkey bars during contest for men”s magazine
In agony: Fitness fanatic Angie Best
Unlike George Best who rarely put a foot wrong on the pitch, his ex-wife Angie put her foot well and truly in it after taking part in a celebrity fitness competition, Richard Kay revealed in today”s Daily Mail.
Former Playboy bunny and health guru who has previously trained Hollywood stars including Sharon Stone and Daryl Hannah is temporarily confined to a wheelchair after breaking her leg in a survival of the fittest contest for Men’s Health magazine.
Angie, who runs Best Bodys – a keep-fit centre at Hambleden near Henley-on-Thames – was one of 3,000 people competing at Battersea Power Station.
Itinvolved scaling walls, swimming in icy water and mud and tackling an assault course.
Shehad just started when she fell after missing the final rung of the monkey bars falling three feet to the ground.
‘I looked down and my left foot was pointing in one direction and the rest of my leg was pointing the other,’ says Angie.
‘I’d decided that despite approaching 60, I was as fit as anyone else — it’s a decision I now wishI hadn’t taken.
“The ambulance staff told me that four other people had been injured on the same obstacle.”
Angie, originally from Essex, became a model and then a hostess at the Playboy club in Mayfair, London during the Seventies.
She then travelled to New York to model, before making her way to Los Angeles where she met former husband George Best in 1975 when he was signing to play for Los Angeles Aztecs.

Despite the break-up,Angie claimed in her autobiography, George and Me: “I remain good friends with George. He is the only man I ever loved.”
George went on tho marry air hostess Alex Pursey, who he lived with in Northern Ireland for some time, before filing for divorce in 2004.

Following her fall, where she shattered her shin and leg Angie was taken to Chelsea and Westminster hospital where she was admitted for two weeks.
Her model son, Calum, 30, who was also there to offer support on the day of the contest visited daily to bring her dinner.
Her leg was put in plaster and she underwent two operations, with metal pins inserted to keep the bones in place.
Angie, whose leg is now encased in a steel cage which supports the pins added: “It was absolute agony and the most disabling moment in my life.
“I was in hospital for two weeks altogether and Calum brought me my dinner each evening.”
She has now started gentle exercise in a bid to speed up the recovery process.
