Toddlers & Tiaras has taught us that putting a child on the pageant circuit can be a pricey process. But the latest episode of the hit TLC series has featured what appear to be the most expensive child beauty queens yet.
Fraternal twins Giavanna and Alycesaundra, four, from Johnsonville, South Carolina, have had in excess of half-a-million dollars spent on their pageant careers so far.
Leading a life that sounds like that of a rockstar, the pair travel in a lavish tour bus with their very own bodyguard.
Celebrity lifestyle: Twins Alycesaundra and Giavanna, four, are regulars on the pageant circuit, and travel from event to event in their very own tour bus
The value of the vehicle, a Christmas present to the youngsters, is not revealed, but is is clear that no expense was spared.
The exterior is decorated with photographs of Giavanna and Alycesaundra, while a glimpse of the interior shows that it is large enough to sleep the whole family.
Their mother, Kelly, who deems the bus 'awesome', tells the cameras: 'We do have an entourage that travels with us. The
girls have their own personal bodyguards.
Lavish gift: The value of the vehicle, a Christmas present to the four-year-old twins from their father, is not revealed, but is is clear that no expense was spared
Personalised: The exterior is decorated with photographs of Giavana and Alycesaundra
Spacious: A glimpse of the interior shows that the tour bus is large enough to sleep the whole family
Escape: There is even a bedroom so Kelly and Ron can have some respite from their high-energy girls
Their job is to keep them safe
because they are little mini celebrities in the pageant world.'
An A-list style entourage and tour bus is only the start of it.
'Mommy spends lots of money and lots of time preparing for them to have the things that they need,' Kelly explains. 'I've probably spent half a million dollars or better on pageants at this point.'
The girls' stage costumes are particularly costly. Kelly boasts: 'Do you know any other kid that has an $8,000 dress My kid has an $8,000 dress.
Expensive habit: The twins' mother, Kelly, says she has spent half-a-million dollars on their pageant career
No expense spared: She reveals that one rhinestone-encrusted dress cost $8,000 alone
'So for me to expect her to do her best, I don't think is asking too much. Four years old is not too soon to learn that.'
Kelly's enthusiasm for pageants is clearly shared by one of the twins, Alycesaundra, but Giavanna is less thrilled about the prospect of rehearsing and performing.
This does not go unnoticed by their mother, who explains: 'Alycesaundra is a is a fireball, she's got a ton of personality. Giavanna is… umm… I guess it's not her personality.
Different: Alycesaundra (left) has more enthusiasm for pageants than her sister Giavanna (right)
'I'm just a realist. I've got one kid that's a brat and one kid that's great.'
Unfortunately Kelly and husband Ron's efforts are in vain after the tour bus breaks down en route to Arkansas for a pageant.
disaster ensues when the pair realise that the lamb that was intended
as part of Alycesaundra's routine had been left at home, and they had been
travelling with a different lamb instead.
Tantrums: Giavanna loses the plot when she learns that she must perform with Tom the Turkey while her twin sister gets to perform with a fluffy white lamb
Winning personality: Alycesaundra delivers on stage with a lamb and toy carriage
The fact that her sister gets to perform with a lamb at all is considered deeply unfair by Giavanna, who has a tantrum when she is told she must perform with Tom the Turkey instead of a fluffy white lamb.
Then it is her sister's turn to bawl when she is not awarded an early crown, not understanding that it meant she would be awarded a higher title.
Given this drama, Kelly is dismissive when other pageant mothers describe their difficulties.
'I'm like shut up you hag, try it with two,' she snaps.
