THE MODERN AUDREY
Fashionistas like Miranda Kerr, model and actress Rooney Mara, and Natalie Portman are wearing a modern take on Audrey Hepburn’s straight, graphic brows.
A more groomed, sleek version of the ‘British’, the Audrey has less of an arch and no stray hairs, tapering into a sharp point at the outer edge. ‘You need a strong sense of fashion to carry this off,’ says Pally Pugliuca, from beauty chain Benito Brow Bar.

The Audrey best suits brunettes with chiselled features and a naturally horizontal eyebrow shape.
‘This isn’t going to work if your eyebrows have a naturally high arch,’ says Pally.
To get the look, use strip-wax near the bridge of the nose to achieve a vertical straight edge at the inner corners, followed by threading to clean up stray hairs. At home, an eyebrow pen will fill in colour and help create definition.
DON'T BOTHER: If you’ve got a square jaw, as thick horizontal eyebrows will make it look wider.
THE 'NOW' NATURAL
Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston and Sarah Jessica Parker have natural brows.
‘Women with a natural style who don’t want to look “done” are going for a boyish look without obvious shaping,’ says eyebrow guru Vaishaly, whose clients include Nigella Lawson.

Great on blondes, the ‘now’ natural needs no more than a trim and tidy. ‘Ask the therapist to leave the natural arch alone, only taking away stray hairs,’ she says.
Some ‘light manicuring’ is required every few weeks, says Shavata Singh, who tends the brows of Kelly Brook. ‘Brush your eyebrows downwards, trimming the hairs that fall below the brow, then brush them back up, trimming any that go beyond the top of the brow.’
DON'T BOTHER: If your eyebrows are black, as re-growth will show up quicker.
THE L.A. ARCH
Tinseltown’s groomed arches are the most requested look in salons. ‘The eyebrows of Angelina Jolie, Kim Kardashian and Megan Fox are the most asked-for shape because they make everyone look instantly polished,’ says groomer Vaishaly.
But forget Greta Garbo’s drawn-in look — the new ‘LA’ has a youthful, mid-sized arch. ‘The medium thickness and sculpted look opens up eyes and lifts the face. It’s great for any face shape and age,’ adds Vaishaly.

She says pluck from the thickest part of the brow (closest to the bridge of the nose) to avoid overdoing it.
‘If you start tweezing from the middle of the brow, the arch, it can become uneven. Follow the curve of the eyebrow, starting from underneath in the inside corner, in one clean line. Repeat in rows until you reach the desired thinness.’
Make sure you use sharp, slanted tweezers. Lightly fill in eyebrows with a soft pencil. ‘Match to your natural hair colour and apply in thin, feathery strokes,’ says Vaishaly.
DON'T BOTHER: If you’re low-maintenance.
THE SCOUSE BROW
Brought to our attention by reality TV star Jodie Lundstram, from Desperate Scousewives, and adopted in its more subtle incarnation by the likes of Coleen Rooney and the Duchess of Cambridge, the tattooed look — aka ‘The Scouse Brow’ — is having a moment.
Luckily, there’s no need to attempt such a brazen look at home, as Blink Brow Bars now offer their Bold Brow Service 40, a combination of tinting and threading (blinkbrow bars.com).

‘Tinting is all the rage,’ says Vanita Parti, from the beauty firm, whose Bold Brow treatments have gone up 50 per cent in the last six months. ‘Dark tinted brows against pale skin as seen on Kate Middleton are an instant cheekbone chiseller.’
Product-wise, arm yourself with Blink’s Tinted Eyebrow Grooming Gel, 16 in Indian Chocolate and Eyebrow Pencil with blender, 13, leaving no gaps unfilled.
‘You’re aiming to create a stark contrast between brows and skin,’ adds Vanita.
DON'T BOTHER: If you don’t wear much make-up or are very blonde, as dark eyebrows will drown your complexion.
THE BRITISH BROW
Letting your eyebrows go to seed is one of the hottest beauty trends, with Pippa Middleton, Burberry model Cara Delevingne and Mirror Mirror actress — and daughter of rock star Phil — Lily Collins leading the trend, along with Victoria Beckham on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar in Spain.
The British brow — also known as the caterpillar look — is not maintenance free. ‘Even eyebrows this bushy need tidying up every few weeks,’ says expert Vaishaly.

‘Threading is perfect, as it removes the tiny, downy hairs between the brows that tweezers can’t catch. And leave a few stray hairs while retaining a thick, elegant shape.’
At home, she suggests, use a clear eyebrow gel to keep unruly hairs in place. ‘Don’t pencil them in or they will look too scary.’ And she says: ‘Ideally, you need a luscious head of hair to balance the look, otherwise your brows will be overpowering.’
DON'T BOTHER: If your eyes are small. ‘They’ll look closer together,’ says Vaishaly.

THE NEW SKINNY
Overplucking is a common mistake, but now there’s a new skinny style that doesn’t look like you’ve been over-zealous with the tweezers.
‘The skinny brow is great for those with thinning hair, as it creates light around the eyes,’ says beauty expert Shavata Singh. The new ‘skinny’ — as seen on Michelle Williams, Helen Mirren and Mischa Barton — is softer than the spaghetti-thin arches of Pamela Anderson and Kylie.

‘Don’t go too thin, especially if you’ve got high arches or you’ll look menacing,’ says Shavata. To avoid a wonky look, she suggests sitting in front of a large mirror with a magnifying mirror in one hand. ‘Pluck a few hairs at a time, alternating between eyebrows.’
If you’ve overdone it, Benito Brow Bar’s Back to Wow treatment, 85, can help you manage straggly stray hairs that drive you crazy when regrowing brows. Your eyebrows are tinted a shade darker so regrowth appears less noticeable and, for six weeks, you’ll have weekly styling appointments, so you never look a mess (benitobrowbar.com).
DON'T BOTHER: If you’ve got naturally thick eyebrows. ‘You’ll have a five o’clock shadow within a week,’ says Shavata.
