Edgy supermodel Agyness Deyn”s secret gaudy taste revealed as $2.5m New York apartment goes up for sale
Unlikely taste: Agyness Deyn apparently has gaudy style when it comes to home decor
We always thought that Agyness Deyn was the arbiter of cool – until she put her New York apartment on the market, that is.
The decor of the loft, in the fashionable Brooklyn enclave of Williamsburg, is a far cry from the edgy aesthetic the model has become known for.
According to Curbed.com, the British-born supermodel, 28, bought the huge 2,911 sq ft space in 2008 for $965,000.
She is now hoping to build on her investmentwith an asking price of $2.5 million – a huge figure even by New York standards.
Sure you get 13ft high ceilings, stripped wooden floors, enormouswindows and two apartments knocked into one but you”ll have to think about the additional costs of stripping all the murals off the walls andremoving the vast furnishings before you move in.
Although you might want to keep the painted pictures of aquamarine underwater scenes in your bedroom, a giant caramel-coloured stand-alone marble bath complete with a spouting lion”s head or you feel a need for a meditationroom.
At least she”llbe taking the leopard skin carpets, seashell chairs, plinths and chintzy sofas with her – unless they are included in the asking price ofcourse.
With all the plush armchairs, velvet couches and elaborate chaise longue and daybeds, the space resembles a nightclub or lounge bar, despite Deyn claiming she”s not the party girl she”s made out to be.
“I”mnot the kind of person who has a lot of friends, and I”m much happier just mixing in my small circle. I don”t really go to fashion parties; they”re not my scene”.
Eclectic: Take your pick of one of the many sumptuous seats – where did she get those china flower seats
Mirror mirror: If the caramel-coloured marble bath is your kind of thing, you”ll love the spouting lion”s head
Aquamarine dreams: Deyn”s dreams must be of a magical underwater kingdom if she goes to sleep here
Reactions to the pictures have been varied.
Onecommentator on stylelist.com said: “I LOVE IT!! It”s good to see someone has broken with the boringly safe coordinated interiors of today. Self expression AT LAST!”.
Anotheron curbed.com agreed: “It”s an apartment only a mother could love but go for it. If Liberace were still alive he”d grab it in a heartbeat.”
Surreal style: The huge 2,911 sq ft loft space is divided by a Salvador Dali-style mural featuring a melting mirror
Resting up: A baroque sleigh bed complete with a bronze bust is the perfect off-duty supermodel sanctuary
But others commentators have been less flattering. A writer on stylecaster.com claims it “resembles a blown-up vintage shop that was curated by our grandmothers”.
And theDaily Pedestrian says “it”s like Agyness takes an opium induced trip onan underwater safari to Africa and back through the salons of late 17thCentury France”.
Off the catwalk, the cropped-blonde supermodel has been seen looking more demurerecently so perhaps she”s looking for a more restful space to rest her lovely bones.
Vintage taste: Deyn must spend most of her free time at antiques markets with all these clashing pieces
Country girl: The gingham and blue kitchen is at odds with the gilt armchairs in the open-plan living area
