Say goodbye: Ben Mitchell played by Joshua Pascoe will be leaving the soap at the end of this year
In 2010 EastEnders' viewers were introduced to a new Ben Mitchell following his release from a young offenders institute.
Fans of the popular show saw Ben turn from a boy who loved to dance into a very troubled teenager who murdered Heather Trott.
And today it has been revealed that Ben, played by Josha Pascoe, will be leaving the soap later this year.
A spokesperson for EastEnders told the Daily Star that the teenager is set to film his final scenes on the Square this summer.
She said, 'It will come as no surprise to the viewers of EastEnders that the character of Ben will be departing Walford when the truth finally emerges.'
While an inside source said that Ben's departure would be a 'closely guarded secret'.
'Joshua was always going to leave at the end of his current contract due to his storyline. There was no way Ben could stay on the Square long-term after killing Heather.'
The source continued, 'The big exit was only finalised last week and everyone has been sworn to secrecy as to how he gets found out. But they are confident it will be the outcome everyone has been longing for.'

Yesterday it was revealed that the teenage actor had been arrested in connection with an alleged sex assault.
Pascoe was questioned by detectives and released on bail, the 16-year-old attended Wimbledon police station in South London on Thursday.
After unrelated allegations of bullying, he was suspended from stage school Italia Conti, in Islington, North London, in March.
Joshua was nominated for 'Villain of the Year' at this year's British Soap Awards but lost out to Coronation Street actor Andrew Lancel (Frank Foster).
His mother Sheree, 48 is separated from his father – Joshua lives with his father, Gary, a builder in Sutton, South London.
'His mum is distraught. He's only 16, so his arrest is very upsetting for the whole family,' a source told The Sun.
A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: 'A 16-year-old boy was arrested on May 24 in connection with an allegation of sexual assault. He has been bailed to return to a North London police station on July 31.'
Last night a BBC spokesman told the paper: 'We are aware of the allegations.'
