Family occasions involving divorced parents have the potential to be moments of great awkwardness.
But when the Duchess of Cornwall came face to face with her ex-husband Andrew Parker Bowles at their son's book launch last night, the incident was handled with the utmost grace.
The Duchess, armed with a fortifying glass of red wine, greeted Andrew Parker Bowles with a warm smile and a kiss, before chatting amiably for a while.
Relations between the two have been politely cordial for years, and they are known to have remained civil sice their divorce in 1995 – no doubt in part in respect for their two children, Tom, 37, whose book Let's Eat Recipes From My Kitchen was being launched at the event, and Laura, 34.
