She may have been all over the universe as Doctor Who's companion.

But this may be Karen Gillan's most glamorous location yet.

The 24-year-old made a surprise appearance at the Cannes Film Festival earlier today.

She looked ethereal dressed in a layered white mullet dress as she posed in a walled garden in the town.

But she managed to add a modern edge to the floaty look with a new blunt fringe and bright neon yellow heels.

She announced her arrival on the Cote d'Azur through her Twitter micro-blogging site.

It is understood she is in town to promote her first major film Not Another Happy Ending.

It has yet to start shooting but the Scottish actress will star as an eccentric
author suffering from writer's block after she finds success with a best-selling novel.

The quirky romantic comedy tells the story of her pushy publisher, who realises he is in love with her.

She finished filming Doctor Who last month after three years as Amy Pond.

The Time Lord’s companion will leave in the fifth episode of the new series to be aired later this year, along with screen husband Rory Williams, played by Arthur Darvill.

Matt Smith will continue as Doctor Who, but will have a new sidekick.

Emmerdale star Jenna-Louise Coleman will star as the new companion.
