So it's unsurprising to learn that Mitt Romney's wife Ann reportedly turned down an offer to appear in Anna Wintour's glossy fashion magazine Vogue.

Instead the 63-year-old First Lady hopeful has relied on broadcast media to reach the masses as the race for the White House hots up,

Magazine editor Wintour is rated as a ‘top bundler’ in the political world, meaning she has helped to pull in more than $500,000, including a $40,000 a night dinner at the home of Sex & The City star Sarah Jessica Parker.

She has advised First Lady Michelle Obama on how to manage her image, receiving an exclusive interview for Vogue in thanks.

She has also taken a leading role in promoting America as a place to do business by selling US fashion houses as exporters to buyers around the world.

A former Vogue employee told The New Republic: 'Above and beyond any politics, she wants Vogue to be wherever the action is.'

such as Sarah Palin, Huma Abedin, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Elizabeth
Warren have graced the pages.

The New Republic adds: 'Republicans have recently been less eager to
appear in the magazine. A hoped-for profile of Ann Romney fell through
earlier this year, says one person with knowledge of the negotiations.'

reportedly shunning one of the world's leading fashion titles Ann
Romney has been doing her best to raise the sartorial stakes.

This
week she stepped out to deliver a speech at the Republican National
Convention wearing a fire engine red $1,990 Oscar de la Renta dress.

Fashionista
noted: 'It’s hard to deny that she looked great and delivered her
speech well–she was comfortable in that dress and behind the podium.'
