Devoted to Team Murray: Kate-a-like Kim, loyal partner who sacrificed her career to follow Andy around the world

Were we allowed to see it, there’s a sense that Andy Murray’s girlfriend, Kim Sears, has a mischievous sense of humour.
Some months ago, she set up a Twitter account in the name of their pet border terrier, Maggie, who tweeted such pearls as: ‘Kate Middleton’s dog is stealing my column inches. This has not gone unnoticed, and I’ll step out without underwear tomorrow to compensate.’
Not that Kim, 24, would ever dream of any such attempt to hog the limelight.
Love all: Murray and Kim, then just 18, embrace after his victory at a 2006 tournament in California
Rocks: There are similarities between Kate Middleton, left, and Kim Sears, right, in how they devoted their life to supporting their respective partners
She is notoriously discreet and remains adamant that all the focus should be on Murray and his game, not his girlfriend.
It means she put her own dreams of becoming an actress and author on hold to support her boyfriend around the world.
In some ways, it is pertinent that she tweeted about Kate, as she shares several traits with the Duchess of Cambridge – not least the long glossy hair and careful combination of high street and designer clothes.
She is also an arch monarchist and an easy-going, popular girl who provides a rock for her high-profile partner.
Artistic: Kim has a website which is all about her paintings of animals, and shows she has some top talent too like her boyfriend
Kim, the daughter of tennis coach Nigel Sears, met Murray at the 2005 US Open when she was just 17 and studying for her A levels in drama, music and art. She subsequently got straight As and went on to study English Literature at the University of Sussex in Brighton.
Kim is also a talented artist and has a website, Brushes and Paws, about her pet portraits. But while no one doubts her abilities, she is still best known as ‘Andy Murray’s girlfriend’ – another parallel with the Duchess of Cambridge, who struggled to carve out a role before her marriage.
Tennis fans would say she has already done a valuable job, transforming Murray from a volatile, sulky teenager into a calm, confident player, and boosting his image.
One insider said: ‘Some on the circuit see Andy as quite chippy – but there’s a view that if she’s so nice then he can’t be that bad.’
Glowing: Kim Sears mixes designer labels with high street fashion that make her a likeable character
Kim – who shares Murray’s 5 million mansion in Oxshott, Surrey – is more easy-going than her puritanical boyfriend, who loathes smoking, is teetotal and prefers his PlayStation to parties.
At the beginning of this year’s Wimbledon, Andy admitted Kim was one of the very few people he spent time with during the tournament.
‘It must be very difficult for Kim,’ said one source. ‘She is devoted to Team Murray but it’s not an easy world. Andy is always surrounded by an entourage, and tennis always comes first. It has to.’
Stylish: Kim's smile and fashion sense has lit up Wimbledon almost as much as her boyfriend's performances
In November 2009, the pressure led to the couple splitting up – but they reconciled after seven months as Murray reportedly realised he could not live without her.
Shortly after they got back together, Murray’s father Will said: ‘Kim’s good for him because she’s not looking for fame. She has a good sense of humour . . . which she will need. I have a lot of time for her.’
And rightly so. For, win or lose today, Murray can be sure that Kim will be there rooting for him.
