Dancing On Ice 2012: Chesney Hawkes may miss launch show due to ankle injury

Dancing On Ice hasn't even started yet, but Chesney Hawkes may miss launch show after hurting his ankle

Dancing On Ice is widely regarded as one of the most dangerous reality shows on TV.

So perhaps its no surprise to hear there's already been three injuries – even though the show hasn't even started yet.

Former pop star Chesney Hawkes may miss this Sunday's launch show after sustaining an ankle injury during training this week.

He missed the press conference today as he was resting his ankle at home, but was hoping it would recover in time for the first show with his partner Jodeyne Higgins.

Sugababe Heidi Range's professional partner Sylvain Longchambon has already been ruled out of this year's series after tearing a tendon in his right bicep.

And former Blue Peter host Andy Akinwolere revealed on This Morning today that he has dislocated his finger.

However in this instance it wasn't the ice to blame – it happened while he was playing basketball with his brother over the Christmas holidays.

As
all of the contestants appeared on This Morning following the official
confirmation of who was taking part, The One And Only singer Hawkes was
noticeably absent.

Host Philip Schofield said the 40-year-old had injured himself – although didn't say how and where – adding: 'We don't know whether or not he's going to make it (this weekend).'

Meanwhile, French skater Longchambon, 30, is out of this series as he recovers from surgery.

When Longchambon was first injured several weeks ago, producers were hopeful he would recover in time to return.

However, Schofield confirmed today doctors said he couldn't get back on the ice for another 12 weeks, so he's out of this series.

Instead, Range will be partnered with Andrei Lipanov.

Unfortunately, the official photoshoot of the celebrities contestants and their partners released today still show Range with Longchambon, having been taken some weeks ago.

Meanwhile, former Dancing On Ice co-host Holly Willoughby admitted she was 'gutted' to be missing this year's show.

Instead she will present new music talent show The Voice on BBC.
