And the 34-year-old has clearly stuck to her word as she stepped out this week showing off a fuller figure once more after gaining a dress size.
The pop star managed to drop to a slender size 8 at the height of her fame with the group.
But she has since ballooned several times, at her heaviest weighing 16 and a half stone and being a size 20 dress size after giving birth to her son Charlie five years ago.
Although Richards is now refusing to let her weight gain get her down after debuting her physique on a shopping excursion.

She was spotted wearing a red floral vest top with some knee-length denim shorts.
Claire looked comfortable and happy as she wore strappy sandals and sunglasses.
And she's adamant she will stay that way as she no longer wants dieting to dominate her.
The singer told Closer magazine: 'I got so sick of dieting. I felt happiest when I wasn't starving myself and decided that actually, this is me.
'I'm not meant to be a size 10. It's not going to rule my life any more.'
She added that having a 'big bum and boobs rocks'.
