Christian Siriano ties the knot with Nordstrom for debut line of wedding gowns

Red carpet glamour for brides: Christian Siriano ties the knot with Nordstrom for debut line of wedding gowns

Former Project Runway star Christian Siriano knows how to create a drama. Last week he sparked a storm of interest from brides-to-be when he tweeted that he would be designing an exclusive line of wedding dresses for Nordstrom.

The post was quickly removed though, and while an image of the gown appeared on the Nordstrom website, it was accompanied by the words: 'This item is currently unavailable' in ominous red letters.

Finally, though, the mystery has been put to bed, as the retailer confirmed today that the collection would be going ahead.

A spokesman told Brides.com that two exclusive designs would be going on sale at 18 stores across the U.S. and online from the beginning of March.

Andrea Wasserman, Nordstrom's national bridal
director, told the site: 'We
believe in emerging talent and we are big fans of Project Runway and
Christian Siriano.

So far, just one image from the collection has been released. The strapless gown, which will retail for $2,375, is described as 'fit for a fairytale' on the department store's website.

'Artful pleating shapes the fitted
sweetheart bodice of a silk satin gown, fit for a fairytale, which flows
into a skirt of two oversized tiers accented at one hip with a wispy
organza rosette,' it says.

A second dress will also be going on
sale, though Nordstrom has said it is will not be releasing images or
details of it until the launch.

This not the first foray into bridalwear for the Maryland-born designer, who cut his teeth in the tudios of Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Marc Jacobs.

He designed a dramatic full-skirted wedding gown for the wedding of his sister Shannon in January 2010.

His spring/summer 2012 collection also hinted at his bridal talents, with full-length gowns in hues of soft grey and the palest limestone.

A design from his mainline collection could be ideal for a modern bride looking for a twist on the traditional white or ivory for her big day.

Mr Siriano's career trajectory from reality television star to New York Fashion Week regular has been rapid.

The 26-year-old won Project Runway in 2008, the youngest contestant to do so in the show's history.

Immediately
afterwards, he launched his eponymous line which has gone from strength
to strength, drawing a revenue of $1.2 million in 2010.

His
celebrity cachet and natural design abilities have led to
collaborations with Payless shoes, LG, a make-up range for Victoria's
Secret and even a limited-edition gift card for Starbucks.
