From red soles to red lipstick: Shoe designer Christian Louboutin to launch beauty range

It was a bottle of bright red nail enamel which first inspired Christian Louboutin to coat the soles of his vertiginous stilettos.

And now things have come full circle, as the footwear maestro has announced he will be launching his first cosmetics line next year.

The venture seems like a natural fit for the 49-year-old Frenchman who proclaimed 'the beauty adventure is the natural extension for someone like me, who likes to empower women'.

It was revealed that he will be collaborating with Batallure Beauty on the collection, whose clients also include Madonna and Justin Bieber.

Chairman and Co-Founder of the New York-based firm, Robin Burns, said: 'Wearing a pair of Christian Louboutin
shoes completely transforms a woman and Christian will bring that same
transformative quality to women through his beauty products.'

It is not yest known what will be
included in the range but it is expected that Louboutin's signature scarlet will
be a prominent feature – both in products and on packaging.

He is hot on the heels Marc Jacobs, who also announced last month that he'll be turning his hand to creating a cosmetics line to compliment his fragrance line.

Jacobs said: 'I see make-up, fragrance – everything, really – as an opportunity. The idea of choosing a colour for your lip, or an eyeliner – it's just such a delight. The ritual of waking up and making those choices is something people really enjoy.'

Christian Louboutin established his brand in 1991, with Princess Caroline of Monaco being the first customer to his boutique on Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau in Paris.

Since then his shoes have been a global hit and he was recently named as one of the 'All Time 100 Fashion Icons' by Time Magazine.

To celebrate his success last year he launched a coffee table book charting his iconic designs and inspirations, featuring Louboutin fans such as Dita Von Teese, Diane Von Furstenburg and Kristin Scott Thomas.
