Cheryl Cole is one of the most famous women in the world, with a hugely successful music and TV career.

But it seems having a famous aunt can cast a rather dark cloud over your future in the talent show business as Cole's niece has reportedly been dropped from the very show which propelled her aunt to TV fame – despite being a 'better singer than the Girls Aloud star'.

Although Melissa Armstrong was told no at the auditions stage she is said to be furious after her audition for the show, which Cheryl used to be a judge on, was cut.

The blonde wannabe has revealed she was promised by producers at least a showing – but suspects that her aunt's sudden signing as a guest mentor at judge's houses meant her audition lay on the cutting room floor.

The 21-year-old hopeful reportedly impressed judges at the Newcastle trials earlier this year.

However, she was left disappointed when the auditions round ended on Sunday without her audition being shown.

It's been reported the judges were split on whether to put Melissa through or not.

Melissa
impressed both Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger with her singing
skills but did not make it through to the next round because she was
rejected by Gary Barlow and Tulisa Contostavlos.

Tulisa reportedly said she had a
sweet voice but it was still a no, before adding ‘this is going to make
it awkward when I next see Cheryl’.

Speaking
about the incident, a disgruntled Melissa said: “I have no idea what's
going but it doesn't look like I am going to appear.”

Melissa
claims producers gave her the impression that her rendition of Cheryl's
Promise This would definitely be shown and her friends and family
believe there is another reason for her omission from the show.

Shortly before the final audition
programmes, it was announced Cheryl would be returning to the contest to
help Gary Barlow select his finalists at Judges' Houses.

We can't believe it. She gave a really good performance and believed she would be featured in the audition shows.

'But after it was announced Cheryl was making her surprise comeback, it all went quiet, I wonder why that is

'If anything, Melissa is a better singer than Cheryl. It's so unfair.'

Following her audition back in July Melissa spoke to the Daily Mirror about her experience: 'I queued up for 11 hours from 2.30 in the morning, wrapped in a blanket.

'After the first audition, they ask you to fill out a form giving three interesting facts about yourself.

'I said I had been in OK! magazine. They asked me why and I reluctantly said I’d been one of Cheryl’s bridesmaids. I’d wanted to keep it private…'

She continued: 'The whole day producers were prompting me to say something about Cheryl.

'I felt I’d spent the majority of the day talking about Cheryl. It’s all they wanted to hear about.

'I didn’t want people thinking I was riding on the back of her fame.'

Despite her rejection, Melisa has revealed she isn't going to give up on her dream: 'Cheryl sang in loads of pubs before she found fame; I’d like to follow that route.

'But I don’t want to become famous as Cheryl’s niece. I want to be famous as me.'
