Simon Cowell has been glowing with pride this week over the news that his star signing One Direction have broken records by debuting at number one in the US charts with Up All Night.
But now his frenemy Cheryl Cole has muscled her way in on the moment, jokingly taking credit for the band's success tonight on Twitter.
The singer and former X Factor judge belatedly sent her congratulations to the group on Twitter, and quipped: 'Remember who really mentored you when @simoncowell wasn't there LMAO!! #proudofyouboys.'

Congratulations! Cheryl Cole sent her well wishes to One Direction tonight, and joked that she was the one responsible for their success
Us success: The band made history as the first UK band to debut at number one in the US album charts with a debut album
Cheryl, of course, was in charge of the girls category during the 2010 season, and saw her act Rebecca Ferguson pip One Direction to the runners up spot.
After the news emerged this week, Cowell, who signed One
Direction to his Syco Music record label last year, tweeted: 'I couldn’t be happier for @onedirection, it is an incredible
achievement. They deserve it. They have the best fans in the world.'
Cheryl isn't the only one keen to remind fans of her input to the group's success. Katy Perry took the time to single out Niall Horan this week. Katy was a guest judge, filling in for Dannii Minogue, the week the Irish singer was put through to the next round at auditions in Dublin.
Whose side are you on Cheryl saw her act Rebecca Ferguson beat One Direction to the runners up spot during the 2010 season of the X Factor
She wrote to Niall: 'Congratulations, you didn't let me down! xo'
A thrilled Horan quickly responded, 'Hey Katy, thank you, let's hope it holds out this week! Thank you for putting me thru! We've been working hard, I won't let you down.'
A host of celebrities have flooded the band with well wishes following their achievement. Olly Murs was among them, and wrote: 'WELL DONEEEEE!! @onedirection #1 with Debut Album in US Billboard
Charts!! 1st Ever Uk Band to do it!! That's amazing stuff lads!! Ledge!!'
I helped too! Earlier this week Katy Perry sent congratulations to Niall Horan, who she put through during the Dublin auditions as a guest judge
Speaking on Daybreak this week, Liam Payne admitted the group are still reeling from the news.
He said: 'Everything
has happened so quickly it’s little bit of a shock to be honest with
you. We didn’t expect to be over here, even release an album let alone
be the first to debut at number one ever – I don’t think it’s quite hit
home yet really – it’s quite strange.'
Liam added: 'It’s just really surreal
to think you were one of those five lucky people chosen on that day.
Anybody could have made the band out of the boy’s category that day and
to know that you’re in a band that has achieved so much in the past 18
months is incredible.
'It’s crazy, but we’re all so naive
to the music industry that we don’t really understand these things!
Proud: Simon Cowell also tweeted his happiness after One Direction topped the US album charts
We did it! the boys posted a thank you picture on their Facebook page today
getting number ones and how many you have sold and people tell you all
these stats and tell you they are great but you kind of just smile
because you don’t really understand it that much so you just kind of go
with it I suppose!'
The teen pop sensations recently
enjoyed a jam-packed promotional tour across America and caused
pandemonium wherever they went it seemed.
The group also performed on the Today
show two weeks ago in front of thousands of excited fans who had
gathered to catch a glimpse of the group.
As well as performing a ten date tour it was recently announced that the group have bagged their own Nickelodeon show.
Big hit Stateside: Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson have made history with their album Up All Night
Heartthrobs: The boys were met by thousands of fans when they performed on The Today Show earlier this month
Meanwhile Nickelodeon confirmed via their Twitter account that the X Factor finalists were in the process of working with them.
said: 'The rumors are true, our live-action slate does include a
development project for One Direction. Welcome to the family!'
deal with Nickelodeon could prove to be lucrative for the lads as the
show would be broadcast across the whole of America and would ultimately
increase their exposure.
