Cherie”s footnote to Carole: The infamous patent pixie boots make a comeback
It was their appearance in matching pointy white pixie boots that underlined just how important Carole Caplin was to Cherie Blair.
From fitness instructor to lifestyle guru to dresser, Caplin was the indispensable figure in Mrs Blair’s Downing Street life.
But when Carole left, so, too, did the boots for which Cherie had been roundly mocked.

Last night, however, eight years after that famous outing at the Chelsea Flower Show, the boots were back — but with no sign of Carole.
For one so sensitive to criticism, it demonstrated a kind of loyalty. At the same time it was proof that Cherie’s wardrobe, which has had more U-turns than Labour Party economic policy, remains somewhat bizarre.
Perhaps she thought that with the spotlight no longer quite so searching, she could once again dust off her favourite footwear without fear of the fashion police.
On the other hand, it was a cold night as she and husband Tony made their way to BAFTA in Piccadilly for an awards ceremony and she just wanted to be as warm as possible.
