Carley Stenson is preparing to take over
the role of Princess Fiona in Shrek: The Musical from Kimberley Walsh
in May and if this picture of her in costume is anything to go by,
she'll have no problems stepping into the Girls Aloud’s singer's shoes.
The stunning photograph – showing the
usually blonde actress sporting Fiona's signature darker locks – was
posted on the official Shrek Twitter account earlier today.
The caption read: 'Meet our (soon-to-be) Princess! @carleystenson takes over as
Princess Fiona on 23 May – doesn't she look lovely!' as Carley prepared for her first day in rehearsals.
Change of scene: Carley Stenson is set to take over the role of Princess Fiona in Shrek: The Musical after recently starring in Legally Blonde
The character is Carley's next role since portraying Elle Woods in
Legally Blonde: The Musical and clearly the bubbly actress couldn't contain her
'I will be playing princes Fiona in westends shrek from 23rd may' She wrote on her Twitter account:
'Thankyou so much for my well wishes
lovely people! I'm here early YES ME!!! Chilling with my 'green'
highlighter and water! Too keen maybe! (sic)'
The 27-year-old star – who played
wannabe singer-and-actress Steph Roach in Channel 4 show Hollyoaks since
2000 – quit the show in 2010 because she wanted to focus on a career in
Before the stage: Carley is well-known for her role in Channel Four soap Hollyoaks in which she played Steph Dean
Speaking at the time, she said: 'Leaving Hollyoaks is one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made. It has been my dream job for ten years and I shall miss all of the fantastic friends I have made in the cast and crew.
'I am very sad to leave but I'm ready for new challenges and I'm looking forward to pursuing a career in musical theatre.'
Carley was a popular member of the Hollyoaks cast with her workmates rushing to pay tribute to her when she left.
Porter said: 'She was like an ultimate original. I used to watch her
before I was in it and think “Oh my God – she's hilarious!” And then to
meet her, she's the nicest girl ever and good luck to her for the stuff
she's doing, because she'll keep working.'
Plenty of drama: The blonde actress left the soap in 2010 to pursue a career in musicals
'Everyone was getting all welled up then because she is honestly one of the nicest girls you could ever meet. We've had her in our life and worked with her, so I think everyone's found it really difficult especially with Carley because she's so lovely.
'She's a big part of our working environment – everyone was devastated.'
However, she did make a brief appearance in the soap over Christmas last year when her character showed up as an Angel in order to stop Doug Carter from taking his own life.
