She might well lead a charmed existence as a former successful supermodel who is now the first lady of France. But today Carla Bruni-Sarkozy proved she was just like every other new mother.
The former supermodel seemed to be showing the strain of motherhood as she made her first public appearancesince the birth of new daughter Giulia – looking exhausted.
Despite looking effortlessly chic in a casual, beige, fringed poncho and her glossy mane tumbling overher shoulders, the wife of Nicolas Sarkozy could do little to hide the tired look on her face.

She left her daughter at home to join her husband at the annual Christmas party at the Elysee presidential palace.
She handed gifts to the children at the event and chatted with other guests and dignitaries. And at one point it seemed to prove more of an attraction than her husband as youngsters and photographers jostled to get near her.
Despite looking tired, Mrs Bruni-Sarkozy beamed during the event, delighting the young guests as she signed autographs and embraced them while posing for photographers.
Giulia Sarkozy, who was born on October 19, is the first baby born to a sitting French president.
Bruni-Sarkozy,a former supermodel turned singer, and her husband, conservative FrenchPresident Nicolas Sarkozy, have remained coy about the baby.

Thoughgossip magazines published pictures of Bruni-Sarkozy leaving the clinic with the baby on their covers, the first couple has yet to release an official photo of their daughter.
Earlier this week it was revealed howNicolas Sarkozy”s ex-wife Cecilia Attias paid a secret visit to French First Lady Carla Bruni to end their bitter four-year feud.
According to the French magazine Voici, 53-year-old Mrs Attias called in at Bruni”s Paris townhouse “weighed down” with gifts for her newborn daughter.
It is thought to be the first time thetwo women have met alone since Mr Sarkozy fell in love with the former Italian supermodel four years ago.
