Carla Bruni is expected to announce that she is pregnant, possibly with twins, any day now.
But despite fiercely guarding her privacy – and refusing to comment on rumours – France”s First Lady is giving out some pretty strong clues.
On Wednesday, the 43-year-old announced that she was staying away from Cannes Film Festival for “personal and professional reasons”.
Frumpy: Carla Bruni wore uncharacteristically baggy clothes as she stood alongside her husband Nicolas Sarkozy at the Elysee Palace today
Today she stepped out in uncharacteristically loose clothes that looked a lot like designer maternity wear.
Bruni wore a baggy black linen top and blazer with loose grey trousers as she stood alongside her husband, France”s President Nicolas Sarkozy.
They were welcoming South Korea”s President Lee Myung-bak and his wife Kim Yoon-ok to the Elysee Palace in Paris.
Paris is the last leg of Lee”s week-long tour that has already taken him to Denmark and Germany.
Bruni”s appearance was in stark contrast to public appearances in the past where the Dior devotee usually wears tight-fitting suits that show off her impressive figure.

The singer”s face also looked slightly puffier than usual, another tell-tale sign of pregnancy.
Bruni had been scheduled to attend the star-studded premier of Woody Allen”s latest film “Midnight in Paris” on Wednesday but declined the invitation at the last minute.
She appears in a couple of scenes in the film, which stars Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams, playing a museum guide.
The scenes Bruni appeared in were some of the hardest for Allen to shoot. She is the first to admit that she is a singer not an actress, and one of her scenes took 35 takes before it was perfected – even though Bruni had no lines.

Bruni is already a mother to Aurelien, born in 2001. His father was her then lover, the Paris philosopher Raphael Enthoven.
Nicolas Sarkozy has three sons, Pierre, 26, and Jean, 24, from his first marriage to Marie-Dominique Culioli, and Louis, 14, with his second wife, Cecilia Ciganer-Albeniz
If the first couple are expecting a child, the pregnancy would be perfectly timed to make them look more down to earth in time for next year”s Presidential election in France.
A recent poll showed that Sarkozy’s approval rating is at an all-time low of 23 per cent — making him easily the most unpopular president in the 52-year history of the Fifth Republic.
