A bride has told how she slimmed down from a size 20 to a 10 for her wedding day after feeling humiliated while acting as a bridesmaid to her slender sister.
Kerry York, 34, admits she was on the verge of tears as she posed next to her size 12 sister Tracey, 31, in an unflattering strapless gown and vowed that she would lose weight before walking down the aisle herself.
‘Bridesmaids are supposed to look
dainty and sweet, I looked like a red jelly or giant plum pudding,' she says. 'I
vowed never to walk down the aisle again unless I was slim.

Dramatic difference: Kerry slimmed from a size 20 to a 10 and looked like a new woman when she married partner Pete in May. 'I felt amazing, completely different to last time I walked down an aisle,’ she says
‘I kept the red bridesmaid dress in my wardrobe to keep me motivated. It was a reminder of how I didn’t want to look when I went down the aisle again.
‘But it’s thanks to that dress that I achieved my goal and felt amazing on my wedding day.’
Kerry, from Derby, says she was so ashamed of the way she looked at Tracey’s wedding in 2008 that she spent most of the reception hiding in her hotel room.
‘I was so upset when we arrived at
the church. I heard the wedding march and wanted to run,’ she confesses.
‘I knew all eyes would be on me for the wrong reason.
‘I felt awful for feeling so negative on my sister’s big day. I wished I could have enjoyed it more if I hadn’t felt so upset about my weight.’
A determined Kerry changed her diet shortly afterwards, ditching take away meals and junk food for stir fries and salads.

She lost a stone in the first month, but was forced to put the diet on hold when she reached 13 stone, as she discovered she was pregnant with her second child.
‘We’d always wanted a sibling for our son Archie so even though I stopped counting calories I did try to be as healthy as I could during the pregnancy,’ she says.
Kerry was 12 weeks pregnant when her partner Pete presented her with an engagement ring and although she accepted it, she reminded him of her vow not to walk down the aisle again until she was slim.

‘When my boys were asleep in the day I would put on exercise videos to help lose more,’ she says.
After reaching 12 stone a delighted Kerry agreed to set a date for her wedding and ordered a size 14 white silk gown dress after spotting it on eBay.
But Kerry’s weight loss regime was so successful that the dress had to be altered and made smaller twice in the run-up to her big day.
‘My husband actually joked that he didn’t want me disappearing before our wedding day,’ says Kerry.
‘But I was enjoying it so much it wasn’t really a diet anymore, more a complete lifestyle change all because of that red bridesmaid dress.’
When she arrived at the church for her own wedding in May, Kerry felt all eyes were on her for the right reason.
‘I felt amazing, completely different to last time I walked down an aisle,’ she says. 'When people told me I looked beautiful I believed them.’
However she reveals she has kept her bridesmaid dress for motivation should she slip back into her former eating habits.
‘It’s a red warning of what could happen if I go back to my old ways,’ she adds.
