Bikini beauties and HIS roving eye: The top ten reasons behind a couple's holiday arguments
15:28 GMT, 7 August 2012
Despite it being a time for relaxing and de-stressing, you'll inevitably find something to argue about with your other half while on holiday.
(Even celebrity couples such as Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, and Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney – both of whom appear deliriously happy on holiday recently – are surely not impervious to the occasional tiff on a trip)
And it seems it is a combination of bikini beauties and a man's roving eye that causes most poolside quarrels, according to new research.
Holiday quarrels: Men checking out other women in bikinis is the top cause of holiday arguments within a couple, while packing is sixth
Men ogling other women in their bikinis leads to most summer tiffs, followed by men wanting to 'do' something active while women prefer to lounge in a deckchair beside the pool or beach.
Where and what to eat is the next most common dispute, and one half of the couple feeling the other half is drinking too much alcohol comes after.
An enormous 79 per cent of couples admit to having at least two big arguments while away on a fortnight's break, and 62 per cent confess they are at loggerheads on a daily basis.
Six per cent of couples even move into separate rooms at some point during
their holiday, because of unresolved tensions.
Happy holiday: Paris Hilton and new beau Frederick look blissfully happy, but 79% of couples admit having at least two big arguments while on a break
Map reading and other driving rows are another source of discord abroad, while packing (him packing too little, her packing too much) also creates tensions.
Tiffs about women taking too long to get ready for dinner, spending too much money, getting to the airport on time and problems with currency also feature in the answers given by 1,000 Britons who were surveyed by travel site Latedeals.co.uk.
Laid back and loved-up: Lady Gaga and boyfriend Taylor Kinney have a romantic holiday swim, but 62 per cent of couples argue daily while on vacation
Calum Macdonald of Latedeals said: 'Everybody has their own idea of what makes the perfect break, and when you clash on these ideals arguments can break out.
'It's shocking to discover how much couples actually do argue when abroad.
'Not surprisingly the answer is to compromise, possibly finding resorts which offer a range of activities to suit all tastes so that no one feels they are not being satisfied.'
Beachy bliss: Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani look happy on holiday in Florida, but six per cent of couples move into separate bedrooms at some point while away because of unresolved tensions
