Be a bathing belle with the ultimate bathtime pampering products
22:47 GMT, 7 November 2012
When it’s cold and gloomy, there’s nothing more relaxing than a long, hot bath. Beauty guru Nicky Kinnaird, the founder of SpaceNK, shares her best tips for getting the most from bath-time and reveals her favourite pampering products.
RELAX BY CANDLELIGHT
After a stressful day, nothing comes close to a therapeutic soak in the bath by delicately fragrant candlelight.
Simply dim the lights and line the ledge of the bathtub with candles.
My favourite is by Sai-Sei, featuring leafy green top notes that drift into a watery jasmine heart grounded by amber and sandalwood (35).

USE A MASSAGE OIL
After bathing, I massage a body oil into my skin using upward strokes. African Botanics’ Marula Firming Botanical Body Oil (52) is a high-quality nourishing organic blend of wild-grown marula and grapeseed oils with green rooibos extract.
It’s loaded with essential fatty acids, plant collagens, antioxidants and natural alpha hydroxy acids to improve elasticity and firmness. It leaves my skin soft and protected.
GET READY FOR SLEEP
My go-to, sleep-promoting addiction is Aromatherapy Associates’ Deep Relax Bath and Shower Oil (37), a therapeutic blend of sandalwood, vetiver and chamomile that works a treat for jet lag.
Pour a capful into the bath while the water is running or massage into your skin and rinse off in a steamy shower and breathe in the comforting scent.

HYDRATE YOUR SKIN
A perfect solution for dehydrated winter skin is Sai-Sei’s Mineral Relax Bath Milk (25). This calming, nourishing soak is infused with key minerals from Japan’s hot springs.
The essential minerals — sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium — soothe and comfort the skin for total relaxation. Use two to three capfuls under running water.
PUT A SPRING IN YOUR STEP
To give myself a boost after a long day or long journey, I use Laughter Bath and Shower Gel (22), a refreshing citrus blend of grapefruit, bergamot and lime.
It’s guaranteed to put a spring back in your step. Naturally derived, this paraben-free gentle skin cleanser contains hydrating glycerine, soothing sea silk extract and antioxidant polyphenols from pomegranate.
I use this together with a textured Life NK Japanese Wash Cloth, 18, to polish away dead skin cells and reinvigorate my body.
BEAT YOUR SNIFFLES
When I suffered colds as a child, my mother was a big advocate of inhalation. Aromatherapy Associates’ Support Breathe Bath and Shower Oil (37) is an anti-microbial blend of eucalyptus, pine and tea tree essential oils that clears your head, nose and chest.
If I’m congested, I put this in the bath before bed to promote a more comfortable night’s sleep.
AND FOR HOLIDAY LUXURY…
I travel with a mini candle and travel sizes of my favourite pampering products. Christmas collections are a wonderful opportunity to stock up on miniature sizes of showers gels, bath oils, body creams, oils and candles.
Good quality essential oil blends linger deliciously in a hotel room long after the bath water has drained.
Hotel bathrobes are normally over-sized, so are perfect for cocooning a beautifully moisturised body before bed.

THIS WEEK'S BEAUTY BULLETIN
Body lotions and creams should be used immediately after a bath or shower — damp skin absorbs products more easily. Laura Mercier’s Ambre Vanille Souffle Body Creme (43.50, House of Fraser) has a light whipped formula and sexy amber scent— perfect for pre-party pampering. The new bliss high intensity 24-heaven (27, blissworld.co.uk) is a nourishing body balm. Oatmeal and lactic acid help to break the cycle of chronic dryness by gently exfoliating and leaving skin more receptive to moisturiser. One of the best multi-taskers for face and body is Astral Original All Over Moisturiser (3.99, Superdrug). This light-as-a-feather cream is every bit as effective as when Granny used it.
TLC FOR HANDS
Dry hands are ageing, but this hand cream is a good quality quick-fix. Trilogy’s Ultra Hydrating Hand Cream (12.50, trilogyproducts.com) is a natural, rich cream that sinks into skin rapidly, delivering instant intensive hydration with a nourishing combination of organic rosehip oils and manuka honey. Oat extract provides a natural barrier against moisture loss, while antioxidant-rich white tea extract rejuvenates. Yardley London’s Nourishing Hand & Nail Cream (3.99, Morrisons) is a non-greasy, but intensely moisturising silicone-based cream in a choice of five floral fragrances. It contains shea and cocoa butter to hydrate and protect hands from chapping.
Margaret Dabbs has added a body product to her foot range in time for the party season. Scented with lemon myrtle, Margaret Dabbs Glamorous Shimmer (25, margaretdabbs.co.uk) includes emu oil, known for its effective hydration, and gold particles. Simply spritz a mist of shimmer all over your body — there’s no need to rub it in. The dry oil can be used day and night to provide a touch of grown-up glamour. On the High Street, Garnier’s Body Ultimate Beauty Oil (7.99, Superdrug) is a lightweight, spray-on oil that illuminates and nourishes skin, adding moisture without feeling greasy — and it won’t come off on your clothes.
