Q My summer tan has faded even beyond the help of tinted moisturiser so I need to find a new foundation. But I want something really light and dewy looking, not cakey. Oh, and I like it in a compact, with a mirror, so I can carry it round easily and touch up on the run.
A Cosmetic technology has advanced in giant leaps and bounds and we can confidently say that finding what you want is not difficult. But it might take a little time browsing your nearest beauty hall and trying products.
A few tips: do make certain you explain exactly what you want to the consultants you approach, and that you try shades in true daylight – VERY IMPORTANT – and just above your jawline. (You don’t want a line between face and neck.) The right shade will sink in so you really don’t see any colour difference.
Fresh Skin Compact Foundation
BareMinerals Ready SPF20
One of our latest favourites is the new range from Aerin Lauder, granddaughter of the iconic Estee. Her light-as-a-feather Fresh Skin Compact Foundation comes in six shades at 37, in a gorgeous gold compact (ready to whip out any time), and we think will be perfect for you.
If you are a mineral make-up fan, bareMinerals now comes in a compact powder version called READY SPF20, so it is much easier to carry but you do have to swirl on with a special brush – which you need to take round with you. But, as fans know, the polished finish is fab. 25 and comes in 18 shades.
Ole Henriksen Total Truth Eye Creme SPF 15
Eye cream manufacturers take note: since the eye zone is so vulnerable to sun damage, why isn’t there an SPF in every single one of your formulas… In reality, protective eye treatments are hard to find, so hurrah for Ole Henriksen for incorporating an SPF15 in this rich-textured age-defying cream. (Since the superfacialist is based in sun-drenched L.A., his stellar client list probably nagged him for this.) Lots of other ingredients in there, too – EFAs, hyaluronic acid (great for plumping up lines), peptides and something that glories in the name of ‘Omega 3 Happiness Concentrate’ (to help treat dark circles while working on lines and wrinkles) – but it’s the sun-shield that has us sold. 41 for 15g.
