As Bruce Wayne, he managed to cram his muscular body into a tight piece of specially made body armour.

But Christian Bale faced a far tougher challenge as he squeezed himself onto a Disney ride just to make his daughter happy, last week.

The 38-year-old put his tough guy image to one side to play the doting father to Emmeline, who was celebrating her seventh birthday at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California.

The Dark Knight Rises star was unrecognisable from his comic book character as he sported facial hair and longer locks than usual.

Joined by his wife Sandra Blazic, the couple fitted in perfectly with the crowd as they wandered around the park as proud parents.

The British actor was dressed casually in a plain black V-neck shirt with green combat trousers and red trainers.

Former model Sandra was a little more glamorous than her husband and she wore a black jumper with a gilet and a scarf which she teamed with a pair of jeans.

Although Christian may have looked a little awkward sitting on the children's rides, he seemed to be enjoying himself and captured some memories of the special occasion on his mobile phone.

The Terminator Salvation star let his special little girl take a friend along for the great day out and the foursome walked around the theme park hand in hand.

Emmeline showed signs of being as fashion savvy as her mother and wore a pair of below-the-knee boots with tights, a blue skirt and a dark blue cardigan.

There was no doubt, however, that she was a daddies girl as she stayed close to Bale for almost the entire day.

Bale will have his hands full soon as the release of Batman: Dark Knight Rises approaches. The summer blockbuster will take the actor around the world promoting the much anticipated film.

Bale returns as Bruce Wayne and his alter ego Batman while Anne Hathaway makes her debut as Selina Kyle, also know as Catwoman.

It will be the last time he takes on the role and he said last year: 'I wrapped a few days ago so that will be the last time I'm taking that [Batman hood] off.

He told the Philippine Daily Inquirer: 'I believe that the whole production wrapped yesterday, so it's all done. Everything's finished.'

He added: 'It's me and [director Christopher Nolan] – that will be the end of that Batman era.'

Bale has starred in three Batman films under Nolan's direction: 2005's Batman Begins, 2008's The Dark Knight and the upcoming film The Dark Knight Rises.

Other actors who have portrayed the superhero include George Clooney, Adam West, Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer.

The films have made over a billion dollars worldwide; Batman Begins grossed $372 million while The Dark Knight raked in a staggering $1 billion due in part to the presence of deceased actor Heath Ledger.
