Barack Obama and Mitt Romney go head-to-head at New York Fashion Week as designer unveils politically-inspired gowns

A designer got her label noticed at New York Fashion Week after unveiling gowns printed with portraits of the U.S. presidential candidates.
One silk gown by Russian creative Katya Leonovich featured a hand-painted face of President Obama while the other carried an image of his Republican challenger Mitt
Ms Leonovich pitted the political figures head-to-head at her Saturday show as she sent two models down the catwalk at the same time wearing opposing designs.

Sergei Prokofiev’s Dance of the Knight, originally composed for his ballet Romeo and Juliet, was the soundtrack of choice.
The spring / summer 2013 collection was filled with swathes of soft fabrics including chiffon, silk and organza creating an organic and feminine look.
Metallic gowns in shades of purple, pink, sapphire and emerald sailed down the runway, accessorised with matching platform heels and jewel-encrusted headbands.

Ms Leonovich said her inspiration for the line was 'playing around the beautiful human
body and trying to make it look different… the metamorphoses of the body
becoming the flower or animal or a piece of art itself.'
Known for her Beautiful Garbage
concept of designing she developed her techniques in
couture design while in Paris, Rome, and her hometown of Moscow and her gowns have since been a hit with women all over the world.
Last month she Tweeted:'Happy to announce that Carrie Underwood now has my dress from winter/12 collection!'
Last year Ms Leonovich presented a well-received capsule collection at the Lincoln Center tents.
