They have centuries of style inspiration to draw from and it seems that 60 could be the new 30 as glamorous grandmothers are competing with yummy mummies on the school run, with over half even being mistaken for a mother.
Parents’ busy working lives mean over a third of grandmothers are now picking up their grandchildren from school at least once a week and looking great while doing it.
A new survey has revealed that the majority have said they consciously aim to dress well without looking over the top or calling too much attention to themselves, yet one in ten admitted that a father has chatted them up whilst they waited in the playground.
While they aren't trying to out-do mothers, grandmothers are glamming up on the school run
When asked for their thoughts on how the school run differs from a generation ago, the majority (76 per cent) admitted that they find the modern culture very different from when they were mothers.
The most common changes noted were more gossiping (58 per cent), greater competition (47 per cent), mothers dressing too provocatively (29 per cent) and, in some cases, using the gates as an excuse to show off new purchases (16 per cent).

Julie Donnelly, Head of Womenswear Buying at isme.com, who carried out the research, said: 'British women seem to be enjoying a much more hands-on approach with their grandchildren.
'Our research has shown how they’ve embraced the opportunity to help their children with parenting responsibilities, and are putting their years of experience as stylish mums themselves to good use.
'They’ve proven to us once again how it’s possible to look great, this time at the gates, no matter what your age.'
