Devastated: Anthea Turner arrives back in Britain after a trip to Majorca
For many men accused of a marital misdemeanour, buying their wife a fabulous bouquet of flowers and spending a few nights in the spare room are often enough to make amends.
But when you’re married to TV presenter Anthea Turner, it seems only a very public apology will do.
Two weeks ago the former GMTV and Blue Peter presenter kicked out her husband Grant Bovey from their Surrey mansion after being told that he had been having an affair with an interior designer nearly 30 years his junior. He denies the claim.
Now, according to friends, Anthea wants the businessman to make a televised apology to her and his three daughters – Lily, 20, Amelia, 19, and 16-year-old Claudia.
The star has told friends she wants Bovey to show his contrition in a live sofa-style interview and say sorry for the emotional distress she feels he has inflicted on the family.
Anthea has reportedly lost a stone in weight as she struggles to cope with the crisis.
Bovey has admitted to a close friendship with 24-year-old Zoe de Mallet Morgan, the daughter of a prominent Surrey estate agent, but insists their relationship is platonic.
A source told The Mail on Sunday: ‘Anthea is still very emotional but she is getting angry now. She says if she and Grant are to have any chance of giving their marriage another chance, he must accept responsibility for what he’s done.
‘Even now Grant hasn’t said sorry to her or the girls. After everything came out, Anthea asked him to put a statement out to say sorry but he refused. Now Anthea wants him to give a TV interview where he could apologise and explain himself, but he’s saying no to everything.’
Bovey, 50, moved out of the family’s six-bedroom home on a private estate last month after being confronted by his wife about the relationship he formed with Miss de Mallet Morgan while Anthea was working in Canada.
He moved to a local hotel and is now understood to have fled to France, where he and Anthea own a 6.2 million Alpine chalet in the mountain-side village of Demi-Quartier, one of the region’s most exclusive ski resorts with views of Mont Blanc.
On her mind: Friends of Miss Turner say she has been desperately trying to work out how her husband could have met Miss de Mallet Morgan
Moving on: Anthea Turner seemed to put her husband's alleged infidelity to the back of her mind as she celebrated her step-daughter Amelia's 16th birthday in Majorca
Fun in the sun: Anthea seemed to be in good spirits as she relaxed on her ex-husband Peter Powell's 1.6million yacht whilst on holiday in Majorca
On Friday evening, Anthea, 52, who was once one of the highest-paid women on television, flew back to London after a holiday in Majorca.
She was accompanied on the pre-planned luxury break by Claudia and Lily as well as former GMTV weathergirl Sally Meen and her husband Russ Lindsay, long-standing family friends.
Anthea has not commented publicly on the crisis, but in a message posted on her website said she was going through a ‘difficult time’. She added: ‘I am truly devastated over what has happened.’
