The actress revealed her directorial experience on the movie helped her appreciate film again, after 'becoming disheartened,' with the medium.

She said: 'This film has taught me to love film again because I see what film can do and I see and I am re-inspired because I was not feeling very inspired as an actress. I was feeling very disheartened.

'I came to this film not because I wanted to be a director, I came to this film because the more I researched, the more I learned, the more angry I got.'

Angelina said she hoped the film was a 'wake-up call' for the international community to pay more attention to atrocities and act to prevent them in countries such as Syria, where a government crackdown has killed thousands in the past year.

'I am satisfied with what we made,' she said. 'I feel very strongly about it and I believe that its core issue – which is the need for intervention and need for the world to care about atrocities when they are happening – is very, very timely and especially with things that are happening in Syria today.'

They couple may return to France later in the year after reports that they will tie the knot after being pressured into it by their children.

The power couple are said to be planning on getting married in a small and intimate ceremony at their 16th-century French chateau.
