American Idol”s Danny Gokey is engaged three years after his wife”s tragic death
American Idol star Danny Gokey, who lost his wife three years ago, is engaged to marry his model girlfriend, Leyicet Peralta.
The news was announced on the website of the charity Sophia”s Heart, which honours the memory of his late wife, Sophia, who tragically died from congenital heart failure at just 27.
The 31-year-old conveyed the couple”s plans to wed, and said that they are looking to hold the wedding late next month.

“Danny’s passion and focus for the last three years has been his country music career and launching Sophia’s Heart Foundation,” the website states.
“He is thrilled to have found Leyicet who also shares his passion and desire to help children and families in need,” the piece continues.
“Accordingly, Danny & Leyicet have requested to their wedding guests that all gifts be in the form of a donation to Sophia’s Heart.”
The couple also issued a statement, saying: “We are thankful for so many of the blessings God has given us.

Gokey, who hails from Milwaukee, was a season 8 Idol finalist.
On July 9, 2008, four weeks before he auditioned for American Idol, Gokey”s wife underwent routine surgery for congenital heart disease.
It was her third surgery, but she died from complications.
The couple had been together for 12 years, and Gokey credited her for his success.
Sophia was a fan of American Idol and encouraged Gokey to be a contestant
Heartbroken with grief, Danny soldiered on and last year told People: “I feel very lucky [when it comes to] the progression I”ve made in the last year and a half.”
