Mistakes: Alex Reid admits he has made 'bad choices' throughout his relationship with Chantelle Houghton
They've been forced to endure a fairly testing journey into parenthood after welcoming baby Dolly into the world two months ago.
But Alex Reid has vowed to do 'everything' in his power to make his strained relationship with Chantelle Houghton work.
Playing down reports of a split, the 37-year-old cage fighter insists he only left the couple's home in Brentwood, Essex, last month, to give his fiancee some 'breathing space'.
In a revealing interview with new! magazine, he said: 'I never walked out on Chantelle. Chantelle and I agreed it was good to have some time out. It’s very constructive for a relationship, to have some breathing space.'
And despite claims he left their shared home for a whole week, Alex maintains it was only a three-day period.
He added: 'It wasn’t a week at all. We did actually argue about that. It was three days. But still, I went away.'
Although Alex and Chantelle, 29, have got off to a somewhat bumpy start when it comes to parenthood, the reality star has vowed to make a go of their relationship.
He explained: 'I’m doing everything in my power to make it work. I’ve made bad mistakes and choices.
Determined: Despite his past mistakes, Alex has vowed to make his relationship with Chantelle work
'I love both of my girls with all my heart, they’re my life. It does make me sad because I’m a good guy.'
Alex is so serious about making a go of things that he has even vowed to give baby Dolly a 'little brother'.
'Dolly’s going to have a little brother in the future,' he said. 'I’m so grateful she is here. If me and Chantelle never see each other again then we still have Dolly.'
Doting mum: Alex admitted he only performs 'maybe ten per cent' of the parenting duties for the couple's baby daughter Dolly
But despite his willingness to have another baby, Alex admitted he only performs 'maybe ten per cent' of childcare duties, leaving the rest to his tired fiancee.
He explained: 'It’s split maybe 90/10. I only do ten per cent.'
Alex proposed to Chantelle live on television in October 2011, before the couple announced they were expecting their first child the following month.
