In an age where sex has been stripped of its mystique and pornography is ubiquitous, porn star Alana Evans could argue that her career is just like any regular job.
But Ms Evans is not just an adult film star, she's also a mother and though she insists she is an 'outstanding citizen' who puts her son first, others believe that she is setting a bad example for her child.
In an interview with Dr Drew on HLN, the blonde bombshell defended herself saying that she will do whatever it takes to make sure her son is well cared for.
Multi-tasker: Alana Evans is a porn star and a mother who says that her job is what pays the bills and allows her to care for her son properly
The controversial job description flags up a few points of debate, of course, that callers and the television host himself were keen to discuss.
As Dr Drew put it: 'Can an X-rated career woman, so to speak, be a good mum'
'Porn saved my life,' Ms Evans responded, recalling that the financial rewards allowed her to leave her abusive partner. 'It gave me a way to be with my son, every day after school except for the four or five days a month at the most, that I work.
'It gave me enough to take care of myself, to take care of him, to pay our bills without being on welfare or receiving any public assistance.'
Proud mum: Ms Evans maintains that while she may be a porn star, she is a responsible citizen who pays her taxes and is not doing anything illegal
When asked her thoughts about Nadya 'Octomom' Suleman's
recent announcement that she too would be looking to the pornography
industry to help allay money worries, Ms Evans replied that whatever a
mother felt she had to do for her children was always the right thing.
'She can't make the rent, she can't pay the bills… She's got to provide for them,' she said.
Porn royalty: Jenna Jameson left the sex industry when her twins were born
That the job of an adult film actress and a mother are at odds is glaringly obvious and yet the two sides of the coin were well represented by Ms Evans and the callers who dialled in to discuss the issue and voice their opinions.
One mother who called believed that Ms Evans' career choice was 'hypocritical' and said that she was showing her son that the 'exploitation' of women was acceptable.
A former porn star and mother, Shelly
Lubben, also called in to offer a negative perspective. Implying that
her daughter is still scarred from the emotional trauma of her mother's
job, she confessed: 'I was in denial that I hurt my child.
'She thought her mom was a big movie star, and she watched the video and goes, 'Oh my gosh. What's going on with my mom'
porn star royalty Jenna Jameson famously hung up her thong for good
when she became a mother, announcing: 'It's a hard lifestyle and I made
the choice and I was able to get through it unscathed but I don't
recommend it to anybody.'
countless other callers surprised even the television doctor by phoning
the show to support the porn star's decision to put her child's needs
over her own faced with the challenges of supporting a family, a
struggle millionaire Jameson did endure.
Evans reminded the naysayers: 'I'm a registered voter, I've served on a
jury, I pay taxes. I've never been arrested for one thing in my entire
life… [Sex] is not illegal… and I'm an outstanding citizen aside
from the fact that I do porn, and that's your opinion if you don't think
