Absolutely blue-tiful: Anna Friel looks fab in a silky number as she makes a rare red carpet appearance with her beau Rhys Ifans

She's been a pin up for quite some time now after finding fame on Channel 4's Brookside back in the nineties.

So it's only natural for Anna Friel to step out looking splendid at a red carpet event, this time she turned the magic on at a private dinner hosted by William Banks-Blaney of WilliamVintage and Gillian Anderson at the Renaissance Hotel in King's Cross.

Anna, 36, looked great at the event, where she made a rare formal appearance with her partner Rhys Ifans.

The actress wore a shimmering deep blue shoulderless dress with silver strappy heels.

Though her hair looked like it could have benefited from having a comb run through it, overall Miss Friel looked delectable.

She pulled several poses on her own, after which time she was joined by Welsh actor Rhys Ifans, who she's been dating for almost a year now.

Rhys, 43, stood proud as he stuck his arm out like a true gent for his girlfriend to grab on to.

He wore a sharp black suit with a white shirt and pointed black shoes.

Last November Anna spoke about her relationship with Ifans.

She told Tatler magazine: 'I've got to think about my relationship with Rhys. If you want a fresh relationship you have to make sacrifices.'

And she revealed that her boyfriend would love to have children of his own one day.

'He is brilliant with Gracie,' she said. 'We introduced her to the idea really gently and softly.

'The good thing is, she had seen him on the set of Neverland and she said: “You are very nice friends. I think he's very nice.”'

Also at the event was former X-Files star, and joint host of the dinner party, Gillian Anderson.

The 44-year-old had a regal air about
her as she posed up on her way into the event, standing with one hand on
her hip and her head held high.

Miss
Anderson wore a black dress with a small black clutch bag and adorned
her neck and ears with matching jewelery that featured a peacock feather
design on it.

William Banks-Blaney later joined her for more photos – the designer wore a traditional black tuxedo for the event.

William himself tweeted a picture of one of the dresses, a 1953 Christian Dior number.

Sophie
Ellis-Bextor was also on the guestlist at the black tie event, proudly
displaying her baby bump as she made her way into the dinner.

She posed up with her husband Richard Jones at the entrance to the hotel.

The
singer covered her bump with a black velvet floor-length dress, giving
off a warm, motherly glow as she smiled for the cameras.

Sophie announced her pregnancy via
Twitter in October last year, writing: 'I am having another baby. Due in
Spring. A little brother or sister for Sonny and Kit. Family e-b-jones
are happy and excited. It's a lovely thing.

Sophie and Richard, who is a member of the band The Feeling, are already parents to sons Sonny, 7, and two-year-old Kit.

Both children proved to be difficult pregnancies for Sophie as Sonny was born eight weeks premature by emergency cesarean section after she developed pre-eclampsia.

And Kit was also premature, weighing just 2 lb 10oz when he arrived nine weeks early.

Emilia Fox, Dawn Porter and Grace Woodward were also on hand to contribute to the evening's glamour stakes.

Dawn Porter and Grace Woodward both played it safe in LBDs, but Emilia Fox went for a more daring combination of pink dress with turquoise accessories.

The clash of colour actually worked to her favour and made her outfit one of the most eye-catching of the night.
