A real old master: Artist Rose Wylie, 77, proves it's never too late to realise your dreams
Ever feel the dreams you didn’t fulfil are consigned to the dustbin Fear not. Rose Wylie is proof it’s never too late.
After a lifetime of painting, the 77-year-old artist from Kent has been tipped as the British artist in the Women To Watch category at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington DC.
She is also having a retrospective at the soon-to-be-opened Jerwood Gallery in Hastings, East Sussex.
Success at last: Rose Wylie has been painting all her life and is finally gaining recognition
When asked how it feels to be getting the attention she deserves, she replied: ‘It’s a thrill, I suppose. Rather peculiar. Often people who don’t know about me but see my work assume I am much younger — 26 or something.’
She is also attracting a celebrity following. Naomi Campbell is said to have bought one of Rose’s paintings for rapper P Diddy, who’d fallen for it.
So, maybe it’s not time to give up on that dream of fronting a rock band just yet…
